Newpoint Thermal Awarded Contract For Moselle Power Station

Newpoint Thermal, LP was awarded a contract from Burns & McDonnell for the supply of fuel gas treatment equipment to SMEPA (South Mississippi Electric Power Association). SMEPA is in the process of repowering two steam generating units at the Moselle Generating Station located north of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Burns & McDonnell, a multidisciplinary firm, was selected by SMEPA to provide preliminary engineering, design, permitting, construction management, and miscellaneous equipment. Newpoint Thermal will work with both Burns & McDonnell and SMEPA to design, manufacture, and deliver fuel gas conditioning systems. The equipment will be used to condition fuel gas for combustion turbines.

SMEPA initiated the project to increase the capacity of the plant in order to accommodate the growing need for more power. This project will add approximately 150 watts to the plant’s current capacity. It is also expected to increase the operating efficiency of the existing generating units resulting in an annual savings in fuel cost for the plant.

Fuel Gas Performance Skids Used in Regeneration of Steam to Electricity

Newpoint Thermal recently engineered and is manufacturing fuel gas performance heating skids for a power station in Virginia. The 500 plus megawatt power station is in the process of being built by one of the largest energy producers and transporters in the United States.    It is estimated that the plant will generate a new supply of electricity for over 140,000 homes. The commissioning of the power plant is expected sometime next year.

Newpoint Thermal’s fuel gas performance skids will be used within the process of electricity generation. Excess steam from the plants system will be recovered to generate new electricity. As an added benefit, the fuel gas performance heating skids will contribute to the minimization of the systems carbon foot print. Electricity generation leaves behind one of the largest carbon footprints. Newpoint Thermal’s Fuel gas performance heating skids contribute to lowering the carbon footprint by filtering out non-condensable particulates, preventing them from entering the turbine.   Additional benefits include a reduction of installation time and cost.
